Scott Wainwright is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Blue Demons and his seventh as a member of Jerry Wainwright’s staff.

Wainwright was instrumental in helping guide the Blue Demons to a 20-win season and the program’s deepest postseason tournament run since 1990 in 2006-07. DePaul reached the quarterfinals of the NIT with victories over Hofstra and at Kansas State. During the regular season, DePaul posted nine BIG EAST Conference victories and beat three teams that were ranked in the Top 25 on the date of their contest with the Blue Demons including then-fifth-ranked Kansas (the program’s first win over a top five team since 1999).

During Wainwright’s first season as a member of the Blue Demon program, he helped guide the youngest DePaul team in seven years through the growing pains of the first season in the rugged BIG EAST Conference while facing the eighth-toughest schedule in the nation. Highlighting Wainwright’s Lincoln Park debut were victories over NCAA Tournament teams California, UAB, Seton Hall and BIG EAST Tournament champion Syracuse. Last season he helped the program open the league portion of the season with DePaul’s best conference start in the program’s history.

Prior to coming to DePaul, Wainwright spent three seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Richmond. He assisted with scouting and game preparation and was the Director of the Jerry Wainwright Basketball Camps.
Before going to Richmond, Wainwright served as the Director of Athletics and head basketball coach at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C. He was named Eastern Carolina Community College Athletic Conference (ECCCAC) Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2001 while directing the Sea Devils to back-to-back conference championships.

A 1999 graduate of UNC Wilmington, Wainwright lettered one year in basketball for the Seahawks. Prior to Wilmington, he spent one year at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine, where he helped to lead the school to a 30-3 record and runner-up honors in the prep school league. Wainwright lettered two years in basketball at Mt. Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Wainwright and his wife, Jessica, have a daughter, Gracie.
