While Lamar Butler is in his third season with the Blue Demons as the Coordinator of Community Relations, he is no stranger to DePaul basketball having lettered for head coach Pat Kennedy’s squads in 1998-2000. Butler spent two seasons with the Blue Demons appearing in 18 games after his senior season was cut short due to knee injuries. During his two years on DePaul’s roster the Blue Demons posted 39 victories and appeared in the NIT, reaching the second round, after his junior season and the NCAA Tournament his final campaign. Butler started his collegiate career at Loyola (Maryland) where he played in 26 games as a freshman with two starts. He scored a career-high 12 points with six rebounds in a win over Canisius in the Metro Atlantic Conference Tournament. After his freshman season, Lamar transferred to Polk Junior College in Florida where he played his sophomore season before signing with the Blue Demons. After his collegiate playing career ended, Butler spent three seasons playing professionally in the Continental Basketball Association with the Connecticut Pride and in Holland. When he concluded his professional career, Lamar returned to DePaul and spent two years working in the Athletic Academic Advising office as a graduate assistant. Butler, whose brother Keith was a member of the Blue Demons in 2006-07, holds a pair of degrees from DePaul. He earned a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Marketing and a Master’s in Information Technology. He resides in Chicago.
